Uni Kitchen Must Haves

Dear friend,

‘But I don’t have…’ is probably one of the most frustrating phrases to say when it comes to following recipes. So I have created a basic (yet highly essential) equipment list as a large majority of recipes these days will use at least 3 of the them. Note there are things that are essential/optional in my kitchen that may not be the same for others. Here goes…

Essentials:

  • Set of saucepans w/ frying pan
  • Cooking utensils (spoon, spatula, tin opener, potato peeler, garlic crusher, wooden spoon)
  • Cutlery
  • Oven gloves
  • Sponges
  • Washing up liquid
  • Measuring jug
  • Large chef’s knife
  • Vegetable/paring knife
  • Plates, cups etc (it’s best to have at least 2 of each)

Optional but helpful:

  • Colander
  • Sieve
  • Large plastic bowl
  • Chopping board
  • Plastic food containers
  • Plastic food bags
  • Foil
  • Cling film
  • Greaseproof paper
  • Oven tray
  • Baking dish (30x25cm)
  • Cloths
  • Washing up gloves
  • Washing up rack
  • Scales
  • Blender (you can pick up one for £25 from Argos)

Everyday Ingredients:

  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Mixed herbs
  • Curry powder
  • All purpose/everyday seasoning
  • Vegetable stock cubes or maggi
  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Oil
  • Pasta
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Onions

And there you have it- basically an entry into Loré’s kitchen. Hopefully there won’t be any ‘but I don’t have’‘s this year.
